Educational Programs

Programs & Community Services:

Education in Life Saving Skills
  • Classes for the lay rescuer and professional rescuer in First Aid, CPR, AED, Lifeguarding, Water Safety Instructor, Babysitting, Pet First Aid for the individual, group or business
  • Provides free inspection of first aid kits and first aid needs to assist businesses with OSHA compliance
  • Promotes the sale of Automatic External Defibrillators, CPR Stations, first aid kits and CPR rescue masks
Emergency and Disaster Response
  • Assistance to local families impacted by fire and other home emergencies
  • Shelters and Warming Stations opened in times of disaster
  • Opportunities to serve as a local and/or National Disaster volunteer
Energy Assistance Program administered by the Chapter
  • Project Share, an undertaking of NYSEG, assists individuals over age 60 and/or disabled with their NYSEG bills. Assistance is available every 18 months and there must be a shut-off notice.
  • FEMA funds are available once during each funding cycle to an individual/family with one person working in the home and a shut-off notice.
Community Disaster Education
  • AmeriCorpsVISTA volunteers utilize Be Red Cross Ready to train individuals, schools, business, churches and any local agency in a free, one hour class about personal disaster preparedness.
  • Reaching into all areas of the county, AmeriCorpsVISTA workers will recruit and train volunteers to be part of Ready When the Time Comes, a registry of trained shelter volunteers
Armed Forces Emergency Services/Services to Armed Forces
  • The Red Cross is the official communication link between families and their loved one in the military. AFES workers are available 24/7 to relay a message around the globe.
Loan Closet
  • Medical items such as wheelchairs, commodes and walkers are available on free loan to families and individuals in need. Donations accepted at anytime.
