![]() The Cayuga County Chapter of the American Red Cross relies on donations to serve the Cayuga County community. The Cayuga County United Way is a major supporter of the offerings of the chapter. Additional funding comes from several local foundations; specific project grants from both state and national government representatives; revenue from classes and trainings; and many generous donations from the public. As an affiliate of the American Red Cross, the chapter supports the programs and services from National Headquarters through a yearly assessment. The chapter does not receive any funding from the American Red Cross. Emergency services which are offered after a fire or other natural disaster are free of charge to any family. These can include limited emergency accommodations, food/meals and the replacement of clothing, furniture and medical supplies. In the last 12 months, volunteers and staff have responded to 33 single-family fires, 14 multi-family operations and financially assisted 47 families after a home disaster. One case involved a single mother and six children after a home fire and total loss of their home and possessions. The cost for accommodations and replacement reached $7,000. Typically, a case cost is about $1,700 per fire. Your donation may be earmarked for the General Fund of the chapter, The Emergency/Disaster Fund or in memory of a loved one and will be accepted at the chapter at 11 State Street; by check; through the mail; and by credit card. We accept Visa and Master at the chapter, by phone at 252-9596 or by e-mail. A receipt will be sent to you after fulfillment of a charge.
